The Philadelphia Phillies edged the Washington Nationals yesterday at Citizens Bank Park with the Phillies securing the victory 4 to 2. Phillies pitcher Cole Hamels (4.07 ERA) got the win, while Ross Detwiler (5.80 ERA) took the loss for the Nationals. The Nationals’s starter Ross Detwiler went 5 innings, allowed 4 hits, no home runs and one earned run with one walk and 6 strikeouts. Tyler Clippard (3.38), Saul Rivera (5.40), Ron Villone (4.29), Logan Kensing (10.55), and Marco Estrada (13.50) also pitched for the Nationals. With the win, Hamels’s record goes to 10-9, while Detwiler drops to 0-6. Brad Lidge earned the save for the Phillies, bringing his saves up to 30.

In addition to the 4 runs, the Phillies put up 6 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Phillies, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. The Nationals didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Josh Bard could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Nationals got 2 runs, 6 hits and no errors.

The win puts the Phillies at a record of 85-60, still leading their division, while the loss brings the Nationals to 50-96, (35.5 games behind first place in the division).
