The Philadelphia Phillies faced the the Washington Nationals yesterday at Citizens Bank Park with the Phillies winning 6 to 1. It was quite a game that followers with Phillies tickets will be talking about for days.
Phillies pitcher Joe Blanton (3.97 ERA) got the win, while Livan Hernandez (5.22 ERA) took the loss for the Nationals. Joe Blanton went 6 innings for the Phillies, allowed 5 hits, no home runs and no earned runs with 4 walks and 7 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Phillies was Chan Ho Park (4.43), Ryan Madson (3.31), and Tyler Walker (1.93). The Nationals’s starter Livan Hernandez went 6 innings, allowed 7 hits, no home runs and 2 earned runs with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. Tyler Clippard (3.04), Sean Burnett (3.20), Jason Bergmann (5.18), and Zach Segovia (15.43) also pitched for the Nationals. With the win, Blanton’s record goes to 10-7, while Hernandez falls to 8-11.
Jayson Werth provided much of the offense for the Phillies with an incredible 4 runs batted in. In addition to the 6 runs, the Phillies managed 8 hits and committed one error. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Phillies, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. The Nationals didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Cristian Guzman could not get much going at the plate as he left 7 runners on base. The Nationals managed one run, 8 hits and one error.
Umpiring duties were performed by Ed Rapuano, Paul Schrieber, Paul Nauert and Joe West. There were 44,223 Phillies ticket holders in attendance at Citizens Bank Park.
