The Philadelphia Phillies took on the the Milwaukee Brewers yesterday at Miller Park with the Phillies coming out on top 9 to 4. It was a solid match that aficionados with Phillies tickets won’t soon forget.
Phillies pitcher J.A. Happ (2.79 ERA) got the win, while Jeff Suppan (5.04 ERA) took the loss for the Brewers. J.A. Happ went 5.2 innings for the Phillies, allowed 6 hits, no home runs and 2 earned runs with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Phillies was Chad Durbin (4.71), Tyler Walker (2.23), and Clay Condrey (3.12). The Brewers’s starter Jeff Suppan went 4.1 innings, allowed 12 hits, one home run and 7 earned runs with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Chris Smith (3.19), Carlos Villanueva (5.32), Josh Butler (9.00), and John Axford (2.45) also pitched for the Brewers. With the win, Happ’s record goes to 11-4, while Suppan is at 7-11.
In addition to the 9 runs, the Phillies scored 14 hits and committed one error. Pedro Feliz and Shane Victorino tied for most hits for the Phillies with 3 hits, followed by Paul Bako with 2 hits. Chase Utley had a tough day at the plate, leaving 6 runners on base. The Brewers didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Ryan Braun could not get much going at the plate as he left 6 runners on base. The Brewers scored 4 runs, 10 hits and 2 errors.
Umpiring duties were performed by Doug Eddings, Brian Knight, Hunter Wendelstedt and Dana DeMuth. There were 37,678 Brewers ticket holders in attendance at Miller Park.
The win puts the Phillies at a record of 89-63, at the top of their division, while the loss brings the Brewers to 75-78, (14 games behind the division leader). The Brewers and Phillies go again tomorrow. There are still plenty of tickets available so take a look.
