The Philadelphia Phillies took on the the Washington Nationals yesterday at Citizens Bank Park with the Phillies coming out on top 5 to 0. It was a solid match that aficionados with Phillies tickets won’t soon forget.
Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee (3.00 ERA) got the win, while Garrett Mock (5.89 ERA) took the loss for the Nationals. Cliff Lee went 9 solid innings for the Phillies, allowed 6 hits, no home runs and no earned runs with 3 walks and 9 strikeouts. The Nationals’s starter Garrett Mock went 6 innings, allowed 7 hits, no home runs and 5 earned runs with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts. Saul Rivera (5.46), Ron Villone (4.14), and Logan Kensing (10.67) also pitched for the Nationals. With the win, Lee’s record goes to 14-11, while Mock is at 3-8.
In addition to the 5 runs, the Phillies scored 10 hits and committed no errors. Jayson Werth led the Phillies in hitting with 3 hits, followed by Carlos Ruiz’s 2 hits, and Jimmy Rollins with 2. The Nationals didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Josh Bard could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Nationals scored no runs, 6 hits and one error.
Umpiring duties were performed by Joe West, Ed Rapuano, Paul Schrieber and Paul Nauert. There were 44,521 Phillies ticket holders in attendance at Citizens Bank Park.
